Eddie Dee Williams' award-winning superhero novel earns Gold in Fantasy – Action & Adventure and Bronze in Science Fiction – Adventure

VALDOSTA, Ga. — August 15, 2026 — The Affinity Theory, the first novel in author Eddie Dee Williams' The Affinity Saga, has earned two new honors from the Global Book Awards, winning Gold in Fantasy – Action & Adventure and Bronze in Science Fiction – Adventure.

The dual recognition adds another milestone to the growing acclaim surrounding Williams' superhero saga, which places Black heroes, complex relationships, extraordinary powers, and the psychological weight of heroism at the center of an expansive fictional universe.

"The Affinity Theory began with a simple conviction: our stories deserve heroes who look like us, love like us, struggle like us, and still get to save the world," Williams said. "To see this story recognized with both Gold and Bronze by the Global Book Awards is incredibly meaningful. Every award tells me there is room for these characters, this world, and this kind of superhero storytelling."

Set on the fictional planet of Uretha, The Affinity Theory introduces readers to the Elite Defenders Unit of Uri City and two of its most powerful members: Malcolm Bennett, known as Kingdom Come, and Symone Watson, known as Starburst.

Against a backdrop of superpowered threats, political tension, romance, and questions of identity and responsibility, the novel explores what happens when the people entrusted with protecting the world must confront the emotional and psychological cost of possessing the power to do so.

The Global Book Awards honors books across a wide range of genres and categories, recognizing authors and works from across the publishing industry.

The latest awards arrive during a pivotal year for The Affinity Saga. Williams is preparing for the November 2026 release of Sankofa, the third installment in the series, following The Affinity Theory and Echoes.

In Sankofa, the consequences seeded throughout the first two novels erupt as the Elite Defenders Unit discovers that the man they trusted as mentor, brother, and protector may be connected to one of Uri City's greatest threats. The revelation forces the team toward an unthinkable mission: hunt the greatest Defender in a generation.

For Williams, the growing recognition of The Affinity Theory reinforces the larger mission behind the series: expanding the space Black characters occupy within superhero fiction while telling stories in which extraordinary abilities do not erase deeply human struggles.

"I've always believed the most interesting question isn't simply what someone would do if they had extraordinary power," Williams said. "It's what that power would cost them. The Affinity Saga is about power, love, responsibility, identity, and the people underneath the cape. I'm grateful that readers and organizations continue to embrace that vision."

With its two Global Book Awards honors, The Affinity Theory continues building momentum for The Affinity Saga as Williams prepares to take readers into its next chapter.

Where have all the heroes gone?

They're right here.

I don’t just write about heroes.

I explore what power does to them.

Through storytelling, psychology, and my Christian faith, I provoke conversations that challenge how we think about leadership, identity, relationships, sacrifice, and responsibility.

FOUNDATION

My work is grounded in a belief that power is not just about ability—it’s about accountability.

My faith in Jesus Christ informs how I approach storytelling, leadership, and character development.

It shapes how I think about sacrifice, purpose, and what it truly means to carry responsibility in a broken world.

These ideas don’t limit the stories I tell—
they deepen them.
